Joseph Lawrence Rivera

The Staff and Management of Cutchins Family Mortuary & Cremations sadly announce the passing of Mr. Joseph Lawrence Rivera, who transitioned from Earth to Glory on July 2, 2021. 

His life will be celebrated during a Graveside Service at 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Fairview Cemetery in Franklinton, NC. There will be a family/public viewing from 5-6 PM Friday, July 9, 2021 at Cutchins Family Mortuary & Cremations in Franklinton, NC. All Covid-19 Safeguards will be observed including hand sanitizing, facial coverings/masks, and social distancing.

Joseph Lawrence Rivera, affectionately known as “Joito” was born in Providence, Rhode Island on July 5, 1987, to Evelyn Rivera and William Rivera Sr. On this day, the world was blessed with an endearing soul that would touch the lives of many. Joseph was educated in the Westhampton Public School System and graduated from Westhampton Beach High School, June 2005 receiving his Regents High School Diploma. Before moving to Franklinton, North Carolina, Joseph lived in Pawtucket, Rhode Island and Westhampton Beach, New York.

Joseph was a joyful, fun-loving family man and always ready to lend a hand. With a heart of gold, he was an exemplary listener, who welcomed all with an open heart full of love. His willingness to put others needs before his own made him the remarkable man he will forever be known for.  He also proudly coached his sons’ football teams. Joseph was a popular and gregarious man who was known to put a smile on the faces of those around him. He peacefully entered eternal rest on July 2, 2021, at 2:33 pm at WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina with his family by his side. Although our eyes are filled with tears, our hearts will forever carry the memories of his joy and laughter. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him dearly.

Joseph is preceded in death by his grandmothers Lou Gertie Laird and Virginia Rivera and his grandfather Jose William Rivera. Joseph leaves to cherish his loving memories: His parents Evelyn and William Rivera Sr., his wife of 8 years, Jessica Marie (Dupuis) Rivera; and children, Jayron Armando DelaCruz Jr., Joseph Lawrence Jr., and Jazlynn Marie his brothers, Bobby Bradford of Rhode Island, William Rivera II of North Carolina, his sister Latiara Laird of Virginia and two sisters-in-law Erin Bradford of Rhode Island and Carrie Rivera of North Carolina, his 6 nephews, Jason, Asante, Kavan, William, Elijah, Osaze, and 1 niece Kailyn. He leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, and friends both near and far.

John 5:28,29 - "Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice and will come forth; those who did the good to the resurrection of life, those who done evil to the resurrection of judgment."

Revelations 21 3:4 And I heard a great voice from the throne saying, “Behold! The dwelling of God is with men. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” 

Afterglow: I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one. I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun; of happy memories that I leave when life is done. Humbly submitted By The Family
