Obituary

The Staff and Management of Cutchins Family Mortuary & Cremations sadly announce the passing of Mr. Swade D. Sanders, Jr. of Raleigh, NC who transitioned from Earth to Glory on Saturday,  May 27, 2023. No final arrangements are scheduled at this time. Please keep his family in your hearts and prayers.

 

Swade Douglas Sanders, Jr. was born April 12, 1952, to the late Deacon Swade Douglass Sanders, Sr. and Deaconess Sarah Ellen Lyon Sanders. He was born and resided in Raleigh, NC. He departed this life on May 27, 2023.

Swade was educated in the Raleigh Public Schools. At an early age he was one of the first two Black students to integrate Frances Lacey Elementary School. This would lead to him receiving a “Trail Blazing Award” from the Wake County School System. He would complete his education and graduate from Needham Broughton High School as part of the class of 1971. After graduating from high school, he went on to study at Louisburg Junior College, Louisburg, NC; Wake Technical Community College, Raleigh, NC. Swade had a lovely daughter, Summer Sanders, one of the things in life he was the proudest.

Swade has many interests and hobbies including martial arts, flying airplanes, skydiving, billiards, designing/architect, and music/playing instruments. His love of music prompted him to start the band Swade & Satin. The band played various cities throughout North Carolina for nearly 50 years performing thousands of shows. Professionally, Swade’s vast experience led him to be employed with several businesses. Some of the companies include Glover Printing, Carolina Power & Light Company, & Golden Corral Corporate Office.

Swade is survived by his daughter, Summer (Thomas) Sanders, his mother, Sarah Sanders, brothers Jay Cee & Michael (Jenita) Sanders, sisters Paulette (Christopher) Battle, and Sandra Sanders. Nephews Swade Antonio Sanders, Joseph Nash, Paul Battle, Lincoln Battle, Nieces Jane Battle, Ellen Battle and Catherine Battle. He also has a grand-niece Madison Battle and a host of uncles and cousins. He was proceeded in death by his father, Deacon Swade D. Sanders, Sr.
